Who Plays Online Bingo?

According to Wikipedia of the 3 million land-based bingo players, over 50,000 of them now gamble by playing bingo online.  Challenging the stereotype that bingo is a game for old age pensioners, around 90 percent of these players are under 50 years of age.

It is very much a cool game for young women as in the UK, online bingo has become the most popular leisure activity for women in the 20 – 25 year-old age bracket.

In terms of age, Wikipedia quotes research by online bingo software providers Parlay Entertainment.  Their study found that 29 percent of online bingo players are aged 18 – 34, 29 percent are 35 – 44, 28 percent are 45 – 54, 12 percent are 55 – 64 and 2 percent are 65 or older.

The game still remains very much a female dominated game with 85 percent of online bingo players being women.

This figure is true with much more women taking part in online bingo chatrooms than male players.

Although according to research by St Minver in 2006 many male online bingo players use female usernames as even though they enjoy bingo they feel it isn’t acceptable for men to play such a female dominated game.

It is believed that increasing numbers of men have taken up online bingo since then and even though almost all online bingo sites are targeted specifically at women, the game is for everyone.

Apparently the majority of bingo players in Spain are men.

St Minver have also reported that the social aspect of online bingo is important to many players.  About 50 percent of online bingo players use the chatrooms during a bingo game.  This is in contrast to land-based bingo which although is sociable in terms of going out and playing with friends who you can chat to during the breaks, once the game starts you must be quiet.
